What is broadband?
What is broadband? It is a telecommunication system that provides wide frequency bands for transmission of information. Consider a broad road in a highway which has a number of lanes that facilitate fast movement of vehicles as compared to a smaller road with limited lanes.
Similarly in broadband, due to the availability of wide frequency bands, multiple information can be transmitted concurrently on different frequencies with in a given period. In the Internet market broadband has made a big revolution by replacing the dialup Internet access using traditional telephone line and modems.
Advantages of using broadband to access Internet:
Broadband enables faster access to Internet when compared with an Internet connection using a dialup modem and a land telephone line and the download or upload time is shortened.
Broadband connection can be obtained in many different ways, through a dedicated cable or through the existing telephone cables. Satellite connections are also feasible.
By adopting broadband connections large volume of data transmission is feasible at high speeds from and to the PC. One can browse various web sites simultaneously and download or upload texts, videos, graphics or music.
The main advantage of broadband is that the connection can be always ‘ON’ and does not affect the land line telephone usage.
There are different modes of payment for accessing the Internet through broadband.
You can pay a fixed monthly fee for unlimited Internet access.
With the broadband access working from home has become possible. Companies can now allow their employees to work from home by providing broadband connections in the houses of employees.
