Satellite Broadband
Satellite broadband is a wireless broadband system that uses the satellites orbiting the earth to provide necessary links to the computer, to access the Internet. The system is similar to the satellite links available for the telephone and television services. This type of service is suitable for accessing the Internet from remote or sparsely populated areas.
A dish antenna is required to receive the satellite broadband. There are two types of satellite broadband services viz. one way satellite services and two-way satellite services. The one way satellite service download information through satellite and upload information is to be carried out through a telephone or IDSN line. In the case of two-way satellite services the download and upload data are being transmitted via satellite.
The cost of installation and running of satellite broadband is quite expensive when compared with other types of broadband services. The service can be disrupted in extreme weather conditions. Further the high latency (ping times) observed in this type of service makes it unsuitable for real time Internet access such as online gaming.
