ADSL Broadband

DSL broadband is a service based on the transmission technology for data transfer through copper telephone lines already installed as part of the telephone network. The speed of data transfer through DSL based broadband service varies from several hundred kbps to millions of bits per second (Mbps). The speed of the service depends upon the physical distance of location of the user computer with respect to the telephone company facility.

There are four types of DSL broadband services.

Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL):

This type of broadband allows faster downstream side data transmission over the same telephone line used for home telephones and does not affect the normal function of the telephones. This type is suitable for .residential customers, such as Internet surfers, who receive a lot of data but do not send much.

Symmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (SDSL)

This has the same function as ADSL on the downstream side but is also has high data transfer ability in upstream side also. This is more suitable for business houses who need significant band width both in upstream as well as downstream for holding video conferencing etc. A separate telephone line is required for SDSL.

High-data-rate Digital Subscriber Line (HDSL)

and

Very High-data-rate Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL) are also available for businesses and are similar to SDSL.
